Transpire Advice January 2012
PIP Implants - Important Information

Following recent reports regarding PIP Implants, Transpire Surgery has been extremely busy with Director Beryl Atkins being interviewed by the UK's best loved newspaper "The Sun" regarding her support for their campaign for Safer Surgery. In addition Beryl followed this with an appearance on ITV's This Morning programme where she discussed the PIP implant scandal with presenters Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby and Health Minister Anne Wilton.

The phone lines at Transpire Surgery have been busy ever since the PIP implant story broke in the news and many women are seriously distressed and concerned regarding getting them replaced. Some of the stories have been shocking regarding the circumstances they have found themselves in and we have been inundated with women who have received surgery from other providers but are not being given the correct information. We have been extremely glad to have been of assistance and we feel that is our duty to provide correct information on our website so that women are kept informed in a simple and direct manner without any complex jargon.

Try to stay calm as it has not yet been proven regarding links to cancer. However, it is known that it is a Non-Medical Grade Silicon and steps for removal seem evident.

Attend a Consultation with your Surgeon of choice and listen to the guidance and information given. However, even though there is uncertainty in the media under no circumstances be pushed into further Surgery as this is a personal choice.

Ask what Implants will be used for replacement and research the facts on the Implants and the Company that manufacturers them.

Ruptures can sometimes be visible but are not always 100% confirmable; this is better clarified with the technology from the Scans that are available now from many Hospitals.

Before proceeding with an operation check the skills of the Surgeon and how many of these procedures they have performed. Also make sure you check the price. Remember its not always the best option to go for the cheapest surgery, you need to make sure what is included with the procedure and what aftercare you will receive.

Our research has highlighted that women have been offered removal under Local Anaesethtic with another French Implant to replace them. However, some companies are offering the Nagor Implants’ from the UK.

Personally surgery lists should be about Quality not Quantity. Ask how many operations they will perform in one day and how long the Surgeon thinks it will take for your individual case. If anything seems to feel a little bit scary to you, then take time out to evaluate everything before comminting to have this done.

Transpire, feel that people should not be rushed for surgery and time should be taken when choosing what is right for each individual case. Also, if you are under serious medication or being seen by a Consultant for any condition then you should definitely not have PIP removal until it is safe to do so.

We have been fortunate to offer genuine assistance, advice and empathy to many women as the Director of Transpire understands what they are going through as she is in the same position herself.

Transpire are happy to see patients for initial check-ups and offer information and guidance. However, we would like to stress again that under no circumstances please do not be rushed into surgery until all facts and information have been gathered.
